The Defunding of Obamacare by T. Martin

I’d like to discuss an issue that is critically important to the future of our health care system here in the United States…Obamacare. Since Obamacare cannot be repeal without Republican control of the executive & majority control of the legislative branches of government, the only viable solution is to defund the entire law to prevent its implementation. Since the Constitution grants the Congress the ultimate “power of the purse,” Congress can refuse to fund Obamacare for the upcoming fiscal year. This is not without precedence; there has been a long history of “limit of funds” amendments added by Congress to appropriation bills to stop executive action on both mandatory and discretionary spending.

The Defund Obama Act; Senate bill S,1292 and House bill H.R. 2682) would both defund the law now and prohibit any further steps in its implementation. Here are several of the law’s provisions; the first would not allow any federal funds to be used to carry out any provisions of the law. The second states that no entitlement to benefits under any provision of Obamacare shall remain in effect on or after the date of enactment. The third states that all Treasury funds previously appropriated but not yet spent on Obamacare must be returned to the Treasury.

If this law is passed it does not mean that the government will be shut down as President Obama suggests. All current government programs would be funded and would continue to operate as usual; with the only exception being Obamacare. Also because the current fiscal year expires on September 30 a defunding amendment added to “must pass” legislation funding the government would stop Obamacare before its major coverage expansion takes effect at the beginning of the 2014 fiscal year on October 1. So now is the right time to stop this destructive law from taking effect. Here are several additional reasons:

  • Obamacare costs will explode from $48B in 2014 to $250B in 2023 along with our health care premiums.
  • Obamacare failures are growing by the day, and many experts have said that the entire law is unworkable.
  • Finally few want to see it implemented.
    • Major labor unions like the Teamsters Union & United Food & Commercial Workers are now opposing Obamacare.
    • The IRS… the same people who will enforce Obamacare don’t want it.
    • Senators, Representatives and their top aides have been exempted from Obamacare under a deal with the White House.
    • Finally 75% of the American public don’t want Obamacare.

For all these reasons and more…Obamacare needs to be defunded now! If it’s not we will become a true Socialist State with more & bigger entitlement programs… where government makes all of our decisions for us and where real freedom is a thing of the past.

I hope that you will join me in contacting our Representatives and Senators in Washington letting them know how important this issue is to the future of our health care system and our country.
