Keeping the grass roots growing!!
LAPEER TEA PARTY MEETING SUMMARY
On April 7, 2015 the Lapeer County Tea Party held its monthly meeting at 7:00 PM at Maple Grove Church on Maple Grove Road in Lapeer. It was an exciting meeting with two guest speakers, State Senator Phil Pavlov and State Rep. from the 82 District Todd Courser. Both men spoke before an audience of over 80 people. They each talked about what was going on in their area of government (Senate & House). They spoke about their personal position on issues coming to us from our congress. The issue on most people’s mind was the May 5 ballot proposal on the sales tax increase. Both men talked at length about Proposal 1 and how it appears that most people are against its passage. They both gave their reasons why they felt the proposal was in trouble, and explained why they were not in favor of it. They, like the Tea Party and many others, feel there are other ways to pay for getting the roads fixed without raising more taxes on Michigan residence. They said if this proposal does not pass the roads will still get fixed. There are millions of dollars of tax payer’s money already being collected in the state that can be used. Everyone wants the roads fixed and they assured us that even if this proposal fails the roads will get fixed.
At our meetings everyone is free to ask any of our speakers questions. This meeting was no exception. The audience asked some great questions of these representatives for over 45 minutes and all were answered.
I’d like to remind you that in our lobby we have other ways for you to contact your congress people and let them know how you feel. Our postcard program is a very effective way to get to your opinions sent to our legislators.
Next month on May 5, 2015 at 7:00 PM we will have another meeting with equally great speakers to share with you answers to questions that impact you and your families. It costs you nothing to attend, only your time. Details of our next meeting will follow later. Come out with your neighbors next month. Get involved, join us and make a difference. You’ll be glad you did.
