Keeping the grass roots growing!!
LAPEER — The Lapeer County Tea Party Patriots are hoping for fair weather and a good-size crowd to help them celebrate the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 22.
The non-partisan grass-roots group has planned a Constitution Fair with the intention of celebrating the origin of the United States, and its founding documents.
“We decided to make this non-partisan and totally celebratory, celebrating the U.S. Constitution and everything that it provides to the citizens of our country,” said events director Terry Floeter.
Floeter said they would like people to just come, let their hair down, and get past all the negativity in the news, whether it’s candidate to candidate or party to party.
“People grow tired of it,” she said.
The free event will include a presentation of the Color Guard by the Lapeer County Young Marines, live entertainment by local youth Christian rock band Caleb’s Way, and keynote speaker Brian Ervin of The Heritage Institute. Scott Hagerstrom, director of the Michigan Chapter of Americans for Prosperity, will also be speaking.
Patriotic merchandise will be available, as well as light refreshments. In the late afternoon, old-fashioned children’s games will be held, including Simon Says, sack races, ring toss, musical chairs and more. Prizes will be awarded to the children, until they run out.
Floeter said they just want to encourage the kids to get away from the TV or computer and have some healthy fun.
Inside the historic courthouse, there will be an artistic display of a timeline of the Constitution and the different challenges it has faced throughout history. Periodically during the event, a video about Agenda 21 will be shown for those who are interested in learning more about the United Nationsbacked concept which “some Tea Party-linked activists believe is a conspiracy by the United Nations to deprive individuals of property rights,” according to Wikipedia.
“We want to let people know this is a direct threat to our Constitution,” Floeter said.
The Constitution Fair is planned for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 22 at the historic courthouse in downtown Lapeer.
