Keynote speaker for the evening was Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, along with other guest speakers including Congresswoman Candice Miller, Rep. Kevin Daley and Michelle O’Neal, former head of the local GOP and granddaughter of the recently passed Jack Little.

The evening started with a VIP meet and greet with Schuette and Miller, followed by a silent auction and dinner. The keynote speaker, the state’s attorney general, could be seen throughout dinner walking around pouring coffee for guests at each table, making himself more approachable and amiable than some previous guest speakers have been.

“I am your voice,” was Schuette’s message throughout his speech. “I am a voice for victims, I am a voice for the constitution, and I am a voice for Michigan.”

Schuette continued, “”You have to pick your battles, and Michigan is worth fighting for. …I’m upbeat about Michigan. I’m an optimist. I believe Michigan’s best tomorrows are still ahead.”

Miller shared memories she had of meeting Little over the years, and expressed nothing but warm feelings towards him and sympathy to his family. A video interview between Miller and Little was shown, which pertained to Little’s time in the military and is in permanent collection at the Library ofCongress.

He used to call her Gg, “God’s gift.” But above all he loved America.”

Michelle O’Neal, former head of the Lapeer Republican Party and granddaughter of Jack Little, also spoke about her grandfather and his life of service to his country and community.

At the end of the annual program, two scholarships were given out to local Young Republicans, and finally the Carol Little Republican of the Year Award was given out — the annual award that honors the most hardworking, valuable, and deserving person in the party. The Carol Little Republican of the Year Award went to Terry Bowerman, a longtime party member and volunteer who works tirelessly in a variety of efforts, along with his efforts in the Lapeer Lion’s Club.
