Rep. Candice Miller votes to abolish the 4th Amendment

The 4th Amendment to the United States Constitution reads:

“Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

Last week United States Representative from Michigan, Justin Amash (along with Rep. John Conyers) introduced a bill that would require the National Security Administration (NSA) to have a specific target if it is seeking phone records:

“The Limiting Internet and Blanket Electronic Review of Telecommunications and Email Act” or LIBERT-E Act, the legislation also requires the secret court established by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to make opinions available to Congress as well as summaries of those decisions to the public.

“We accept that free countries must engage in secret operations from time to time to protect their citizens. Free countries must not, however, operate under secret laws. Secret court opinions obscure the law. They prevent public debate on critical policy issues and they stop Congress from fulfilling its duty to enact sound laws and fix broken ones,” Amash and Conyers said in a joint statement.

The legislation comes in response to revelations that the NSA has been collecting widespread phone records, including the time, duration and location of calls, as part of a program to track terrorists.

The bill was voted upon and defeated:

Representative Candice Miller voted to abolish the 4th Amendment to the United States Constitution!  The entire Republican leadership – Boehner, Cantor, and Ryan also voted to abolish the 4th Amendment. Candice Miller has aligned herself with the so-called “progressive” wing of the Republican Party which includes Boehner, Cantor, and Ryan, with Upton, Rodgers, and Camp from Michigan. Remember, that immediately after the 2012 elections Boehner purged all conservatives from leadership positions in the House? This same progressive Republican leadership, including Candice Miller is poised to give us amnesty for illegal immigrants.

The question must be asked: why does the Tea Party support Candice Miller?  She voted to renew the so-called “Patriot Act” last year after it was slated to expire, which gave the NSA virtually unlimited power to collect and record electronic data of all types on all Americans at all times without a warrant.   And now she emphatically supports the NSA when they are trampling all over the 4th Amendment rights of citizens.  Candice Miller is not honoring the oath she took to uphold and defend the United States Constitution.

You pose a good question.  Why do the voters of Lapeer County constantly re-elect Candice Miller.  She's never sponsored a bill of her own.  Not once during her tenure as our representative, has she represented the interests of the people of Lapeer County.  Her sole focus has been to address the concerns of her financial backing, most of whom are in Macomb and Oakland County.  She votes to preserve her campaign contributions.  The worst part of Ms Miller is that she will say anything that she thinks the voters want to hear.

A couple years ago she came to the Lapeer Tea Party meeting during one of her re-election bids.  At that time, she told the folks, probably you were in the audience, how she was against Obama Care and Taxes...pretty much everything the folks wanted to hear.  And they all cheered, and swore that she was our champion in the house.  And you folks bought her line hook, line, and sinker without regard to what her track record is.  Right now she's campaigning for re-election in 2014.   You Tea Party folks are some of her biggest supporters in the parades throughout Lapeer County.  Her material litters your booths, your people wear her t-shirts.  And, she will get re-elected.  Not because she's any good for our community.  Candice Miller will get re-elected because she will have a big fat (R) after her name on the ballot.  The folks of Lapeer County can not see past that (R) when it comes to elections; its a huge blinder to anything or anyone else that might be better for our community.  So you ask why Ms. Miller keeps getting Tea Party Support; the answer is because she has an (R) after her name.  .
