Signature drive for Pavlov recall starts Saturday in two counties

Sen. Phil Pavlov LAPEER — Local organizers will hit the ground running this Saturday, as they launch a petition drive seeking to recall State Sen. Phil Pavlov, R-St. Clair Twp. Pavlov is the state senator for the 25th district including Lapeer and St. Clair counties. His term runs to Jan. 1, 2015.

Organizers working toward his recall submitted petition language three times before winning approval in October from the St. Clair County Election Commission. They waited to begin gathering signatures until Jan. 7, from which time they will have a window of 90 days to gather a total of 20,466 signatures. If they succeed in collecting the necessary valid signatures, look for the issue on the Aug. 7 primary ballot.

Volunteers in both counties will launch the signature drive with twin events on Saturday, Jan 7. In Lapeer, Gallery 194 will be the site for the recall kick-off. In addition to petitions to sign, there will be live music, refreshments and a silent auction. Organizers note they will also have information on issues like personal tax changes and impact on education.

The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Gallery located in downtown Lapeer at 194 West Nepessing St.

In St. Clair County, organizers will launch the effort with a signing event at 2441 W. Water St. in Port Huron from noon to 5 p.m.

Also beginning Jan. 7, organizers will station petition volunteers at a couple of area coffee shops at designated times throughout the month.
