Keeping the grass roots growing!!
LAPEER — Lapeer Indivisible Team (LIT), a new chapter of the national group, Indivisible, was recently launched in Lapeer County.
As with other Indivisible groups organized to resist President Donald Trump’s agenda around the country, LIT’s purpose is to stand up for democracy through implementation of the “Indivisible Guide” and provide county residents opportunities to gather, share opinions and hold members of Congress accountable.
LIT will focus attention on local members of Congress including Rep. Paul Mitchell, who represents the 10th Congressional District that includes Lapeer County, and senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow. In addition, the group will follow Michigan legislative activities and state Rep. Gary Howell and Sen. Mike Green.
LIT members will thank local members of Congress when appropriate, push them to do more where needed, and express opinions regarding current legislation and other important issues. The group will follow legislative activities, contact and visit members of Congress and attend public events while maintaining a positive and civil approach.
LIT members have agreed to the following guiding principles:
• The current administration’s agenda will take America backwards and must be stopped;
• To work together to achieve this goal members will model the values of inclusion, respect, fairness and honesty;
• The team is nonpartisan and welcomes people who support their principles.
LIT can be found on the national Indivisible website, www.individualguide.com, and at www.facebook.com/groups/ LapeerIndividualTeam/. The next LIT meeting will be held April 3. Contact lapeerindividualteam@gmail.com for details.
